Sync Code (DCE-003), released in 1998, is the third vinyl release from Adelaide’s DCE Records and continues the label’s distinctive approach to live, machine-based techno. Crafted by John Gray, Antony Coppens, and Paddee, the EP delivers four tracks that deepen the label’s commitment to raw synthesis, analog sequencing, and hands-on improvisation.

The release is driven by themes of machine logic and pulse, with each track built around interlocking patterns and feedback-saturated textures. Basslines twist beneath heavy rhythmic frameworks, while filtered signals and tonal shifts create a sense of urgency and momentum. The sound is purposefully unrefined, shaped by real-time hardware manipulation and minimal post-production—a hallmark of DCE’s studio and stage methodology.

Sync Code also reflects the group’s peak period of live performance activity, during which they became widely known in Australia for intense, hardware-driven sets that emphasized sonic force and control. The record captures the essence of that energy, translating the unpredictability and tension of live electronics into a fixed format without losing impact.

As a continuation of the label’s early trajectory, Sync Code stands alongside the first two DCE releases as a document of an uncompromising artistic vision—one grounded in physical sound, underground ethos, and deep technical discipline.
